MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team opens Gulf South Conference play this week with road contests against Lee (Dec. 4) and Trevecca Nazarene (Dec. 6).
OFFICIAL SCHEDULE
Montevallo enters the week with an overall record of 1-3, after recording its first victory of the season over Shorter on Saturday. The Falcons captured the win in dominant fashion, taking down the Hawks, 67-47, inside of Central State Bank Arena. Elyse Hughes led the way for the Falcons, nearly notching a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Julia Susla and Alani Owens also reached double figures with 17 and ten, respectively.
On the season, Montevallo is averaging 55.5 points, while shooting 37.4-percent from the field and 20.5-percent from distance. Hughes leads the team in scoring (12.0 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg), while Emily Mouser has a team leading-11 assists and Susla has a team leading-six steals.
Lee holds an overall record of 3-1 which includes a 47-45 win over No. 23 Tampa on opening weekend. Last time out, the Lady Flames earned a 78-63 victory at Kentucky State on Monday. Lee averages 69.5 points, while shooting 41.7-percent from the field and 24.3-percent from long range. Two Lady Flames rank in the top-three in scoring in the GSC, as Libby Privett ranks second, averaging 22.3 points, and Anna Muhonen ranks third, averaging 17.5 points. Muhonen leads the entire GSC in blocks with ten, while ranking second in the league in rebounding, averaging 10.3 boards.
Trevecca Nazarene enters the week with a 3-1 record. Last time out, the Trojans earned a dominant, 80-38, win over Emory & Henry on Nov. 23. Trevecca averages 72.3 points, shooting 42.8-percent from the field and 35.4-percent from distance. Cheyenne Trotter leads the team and ranks top-five in the GSC in multiple categories including scoring (fifth – 16.3 ppg), rebounding (first – 11.8 rpg), and field goal percentage (second - .634). Jordan Gillies ranks second in the GSC in assists per game, averaging 5.3. Gillies ranks second in the league in 3-pt FG percentage (.414), while Brianna Burgess leads the conference in 3-pt FGs per game (3.0).
