GREENVILLE, S.C. – Denis Popov of the Montevallo men's swimming team has been named the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month for November, the league announced Friday.
Popov delivered standout performances throughout the month, etching his name across the Falcon record book with strong swims against Berry and at the House of Champions. In the Falcons' 133-128 win over the Vikings, the Moscow, Russia native claimed the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.22 and helped lead the 200-yard freestyle relay team to a first-place finish in 1:27.12.
At the House of Champions, Popov posted the program's fifth- and sixth-fastest times in the 200 Individual Medley at 1:51.74 and 1:51.75. On Day Two, he added UM's 10th-fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke at 50.05 before recording another top-10 mark in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:51.23. Across the three-day meet, he also contributed to four relay teams that registered new top-10 program times.

Popov and the Falcons return to the pool on Jan. 9 when they travel to Delta State for a 12:00 p.m. meet.
