MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team was out slugged 4-13 by the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday, Feb. 1. The Falcons fall to 1-1 on the season while the Eagles improve to 1-1.
Embry-Riddle set the tone early for their offense as they connected with a long ball with the first pitch of the game. In the bottom of the first, Montevallo threatened with back-to-back singles from
Logan Harbin and
McGwire Turner but two line outs ended the Falcon scoring opportunity. The Eagles blew it wide open as they scored five runs in the second. ERAU took a page out of the Falcon book as they scored four runs with two outs including a two RBI-double and a two-run home run to straight center.
Embry-Riddle would hit their third homer of the day in the third inning with a two-run shot to right. In the bottom half of the third,
Logan Harbin would connect with his first long ball of 2025 as he hit a solo shot to left field to get the Falcons on the board.
Trey Felker would come in from the bullpen in the top of the fourth and turn in a great outing as he went 2.1 innings and only allowing one hit and two walks. He struck out two. Felker gave way to
Landen Walker who closed out the top of the sixth as he recorded two outs in two batters. Embry-Riddle pitching was stingy as Montevallo was only able to score one run within the first five innings of the game.
The Falcons showed signs of life in the sixth as
Riley Thuringer smacked a solo shot to right center for his first collegiate home run. With two outs,
Connor Crowson deposited one over the right center wall for his first round tripper of the year. Embry-Riddle would put the game out of reach in the seventh as they scored five runs on four hits including three singles and a triple. Montevallo would scratch one across in the bottom of the ninth with a bases loaded walk drawn by
Daniel Irizarry.
