Falcons Open Season With 24-15 Win Over Emmanuel

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse opened the 2025 campaign with a 24-15 win over Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon.
 
Montevallo drew first blood with the opening goal of the game coming just 50 seconds into the matchup. Montevallo keeper Alex Egorshin tallied a pair of saves before Caden Chalut found the back of the net to give UM a 2-0 lead. At the 8:06 mark, Aaron Tichonoff extended the Falcons advantage before Emmanuel scored a trio of unanswered goals to tie the game at 3-3 with 4:38 left in the first. Nick Givens and Tichonoff scored consecutive goals for UM to push the lead to 6-3 before Chalut added his second goal of the opening quarter to give the Falcons a 7-3 lead heading into the second.
 
The Lions struck first in the second on a break-away in the opening minute. With 13:16 on the clock, Ryan Andrews tallied his first goal of the season to stretch the Falcons' lead back to four. Following an Emmanuel man-up goal, Jetty Miller found the mark for the second time on a Montevallo extra-man opportunity. Aidan Collery's first goal of 2025 pushed the Falcons to a 10-5 lead before the Lions answered just a minute later. Senior Jacob Obee and Samuel Martin got in on the action with a pair of goals before the Lions cut the lead to 12-8 with a man-up goal at the 3:06 mark. Chalut finished his first-half hat trick with just 94 seconds left in the half before the Lions scored to send the game to halftime with a 13-9 Montevallo lead.
 
Out of the break, Matthew Boas scored a pair of goals in the first three minutes to extend the Falcons lead. Montevallo saw its largest lead of the day at 17-9 following Nick Gaca's first goal of the year with 10:23 left in the third. The Lions closed the third quarter with two unanswered goals, including a man-up goal in the final two minutes, to head to the fourth with Montevallo on top, 17-11.
 
Chalut opened the final stanza's scoring with his fourth of the day before Montevallo's Brandon Shaffner tallied his first goal of 2025 to push Montevallo's lead out to 19-11 in the first two minutes of the fourth. A pair of Emmanuel goals sandwiched Michael Howkins first career goal before the Lions cut the lead down to 20-14 at the 10:11 mark. Boas ended the 3-1 Lion run with a second goal of the half ahead of Jacob Obee's first goal to give Montevallo a 23-14 lead. Boas scored the final Montevallo goal at the 4:51 mark of the fourth to give Montevallo its 24-15 season-opening victory.

  • Matthew Boas led the Falcons with six points on four goals and two assists while Caden Chalut added four goals in the season opener.
  • Collin Schuster led the Falcons with a trio of caused turnovers while John Hampton, Nolan Ross and James Trainer each recorded two.
  • The Falcons were assessed six penalties for a total of three minutes while Emmanuel was booked five times for 2:30.
