MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball is set to host Auburn Montgomery on Saturday afternoon to kick off the final homestand for the Falcons.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo enters the weekend after clinching its first appearance in the Gulf South Conference tournament since 2022 with a 15-8 overall record and an 11-6 mark in conference play. The Falcons opened the season with a 1-1 record after topping Barry and falling to No. 2 Nova Southeastern before adding three straight wins over Spring Hill, Point, and Carolina Christian. Montevallo then dropped a game to Cumberland on Nov. 24 before opening conference action with a 75-60 win over Lee. The Falcons would go on to top Trevecca, Delta State, and Mississippi College to move to 4-0 in conference play before finishing the first half of the season with wins over Christian Brothers and Union. Montevallo slipped to 6-2 in GSC play after falling to AUM and Alabama Huntsville to open 2025 before ending the skid with an 83-73 road win over West Alabama on Jan. 11. The Falcons then went on a three-game losing streak with losses to Valdosta State, West Florida and Trevecca to fall to 7-5 in GSC play. Montevallo rebounded with a 58-50 road win over Lee before topping MC, 83-77, on Jan. 30. The Falcons last loss came on Feb. 1 with a 90-85 loss to Delta State. Montevallo added a 63-60 win over Union on Feb. 6 before topping Christian Brothers, 81-70, on Feb. 8.
Montevallo ranks fifth in the GSC with an average of 78.5 points per game on a fourth-ranked 46.3-percent shooting from the floor and 74.7 percent from the line. On the glass, the Falcons average 35.5 rebounds per game with a GSC third-best 11.3 offensive rebounds per game. Montevallo shares the ball with an average of 12.13 assists per game while recording 7.91 steals per game defensively. Montevallo allows just 75.4 points per game on 44.9-percent shooting from opponents.
Individually,
Jaylen Curry leads the Falcons with 16.7 points per game on 46.2-percent. shooting while also leading Montevallo on the glass with 6.2 rebounds per game.
Brandon Fussell follows closely behind with 16.5 points per game on 47.1-percent shooting while leading the team with 3.4 assists per game.
Derek Moore matched Curry on the glass with 6.2 boards per game while scoring 13.9 points per contest on 59.1 percent from the floor.

AUM enters the weekend with a 9-13 overall record and a 6-11 mark in conference play after opening the season with a 1-1 record after falling to Florida Southern and topping Saint Leo in early November. The Warhawks closed the non-conference schedule with wins over Georgia College and Miles before opening GSC play with a loss to Trevecca on Dec. 5. AUM topped Lee, 74-66, on Dec. 7 before dropping back-to-back games at Delta State and Mississippi College. AUM closed the calendar year with a win over Union on Dec. 19 before falling to CBU on Dec. 21. The Warhawks opened 2025 with wins over Montevallo and West Alabama before falling to Alabama Huntsville on Jan. 12. AUM added a 96-85 victory over West Florida before falling in five-straight games to Valdosta State, Lee, Trevecca, and Delta State. AUM ended the skid with a win over Mississippi College on Feb. 1 before dropping a game to CBU, 91-68, ON Feb. 6. Most recently, the Warhawks fell to Union, 102-85, on Feb. 8.
AUM averages 77.0 points per game on 43.6-percent shooting and 33.9 percent from the three-point line while also shooting 71.1 percent from the charity stripe. The Warhawks also average 11.1 assists per game while pulling down 35.0 rebounds per game with 10.5 rebounds coming on the offensive glass. Defensively, AUM allows 81.5 points per game on an on opponent shooting mark of 46.3 percent while averaging 7.55 assists per game and 2.50 blocks per game.
Paul Lanzi leads AUM with an average of 13.3 points per game on 45.7-percent shooting while Malachi Rhodes averages 12.4 points per game on 42.5-percent from the floor with a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game. Chappelle Whitney ranks third on the squad at 11.3 points per game while Trent Coleman scores 10.7 points per game.
Series History Against AUM:
Since the Falcons rejoined the GSC, Montevallo is 11-6 against the Warhawks with the Falcons taking the first three wins of the series from 2016-2018. Montevallo has swept the season series twice in 2021 and in 2024. Most recently, Montevallo fell to AUM, 93-85, on Jan. 4, 2025.
