MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball heads out for one of the final road trips of the season to take on Union and Christian Brothers in Tennessee.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo enters the weekend as the fourth-ranked team in the Gulf South Conference with a 9-6 conference record and a 13-8 mark overall. The Falcons opened the season with a 1-1 record after topping Barry in the season opener before falling to No. 2 Nova Southeastern in early November. Montevallo then tallied three-straight nonconference wins over Spring Hill, Point and Carolina Christian before the Falcons fell to Cumberland on Nov. 24. Montevallo opened conference play with a 75-60 win over Lee and an 89-71 win over Trevecca in early December. Montevallo's first road trip of the season featured wins over Delta State and Mississippi College before returning home for a 70-66 win over Christian Brothers on Dec. 19. Montevallo closed the 2024 calendar year with a 76-73 win over Union on Dec. 21. The Falcons took the first conference loss of the season on Jan. 4 at Auburn Montgomery before falling to Alabama Huntsville on the road. Montevallo ended the two-game skid with an 83-73 win over West Alabama on the road. The Falcons then went on a three-game losing streak with losses to Valdosta State, West Florida and Trevecca Nazarene. UM ended the streak with a 58-50 road win over Lee before adding an 83-77 win over Mississippi College on Jan. 30. Most recently, Montevallo fell to Delta State, 90-85, on Feb. 1.
Montevallo ranks fifth in the GSC with an average of 79.1 points per game on a 46.7-percent clip from the floor and a 33.0-percent mark from three. On the glass, Montevallo averages 35.5 rebounds per game with 11.1 rebounds per game coming on the offensive glass. The Falcons also average 12.43 assists per game while forcing 13.2 turnovers from opponents. Defensively, Montevallo averages 7.90 steals per game for the third most in the league while holding opponents to 45.2 percent shooting.
Individually, the Falcons are led by

Brandon Fussell who each average 16.4 points per game while Curry averages a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game and Fussell leads the squad with 3.5 assists per game.
Derek Moore ranks second on the team with an average of 14.2 points per game while tallying 6.1 rebounds per game.

Union heads into the weekend with an 11-9 overall record and a 7-7 mark in GSC play as the fifth ranked team in the league. The Bulldogs opened the season with a four-game win streak in the nonconference slate with wins over Lane, Tuskegee, Williams Baptist, and Bethel. Union then fell to Drury, 91-69, before falling to Illinois Springfield on Nov. 27. Union opened conference play with a pair of wins over Delta State and Mississippi College before topping CBU, 74-70, on the road. The Bulldogs then went on a five-game skid with losses to Montevallo, AUM, UAH, West Alabama and Valdosta State. Union ended the streak with an 82-78 win over West Florida on Jan. 11. Union went on to top Lee, 73-60, on Jan. 16 before adding an 86-83 win over Trevecca on Jan. 18. On Jan. 23, Union took down Mississippi College, 72-64, before falling to Delta State on Jan. 25. Most recently, Union lost to Christian Brothers, 57-56, on Jan. 30.
Union averages 75.3 points per game on a team shooting mark of 44.1-percent with a 33.8-percent clip from long range and an 80.1-percent mark from the stripe. The Bulldogs also average 38.7 rebounds per game with 11.5 offensive rebounds per game which ranks third in the GSC. Union tallies an average of 10.5 assists per game while recording 5.2 steals per game and 3.2 blocks per game.
UU is led by CJ Jackson with an average of 18.0 points per game on 48.2-percent shooting and 36.4-percent from long range while averaging 4.2 rebounds per game. Parker Applegate ranks second on the squad with 13.1 points per game on 49.1-percent shooting while leading the team with 8.9 rebounds per game. Jeremiah Littlepage (10.6) and Kaleim Taylor (10.0) round out the Bulldogs' double-digit scorers.
Series History Against Union:
In the short-lived series, Union holds an 8-2 record over the Falcons with eight-straight wins since the 2018-19 season before the Falcons ended the streak in December 2024. Most recently, Montevallo defeated Union, 76-73, on Dec. 21, 2024.

CBU heads into the weekend matchup with an 8-12 overall record and a 4-10 mark in GSC play after opening the season with a pair of wins over Tuskegee and Lane in early November. The Bucs then dropped a meeting with Northeastern State on Nov. 23 before adding wins over Harding and Henderson State. CBU opened conference play with a loss to Mississippi College before falling to Delta State, 86-75, on Dec. 7. The Bucs then lost to Union, 74-70, on Dec. 13. In a nonconference blip, CBU dropped a meeting with Northeastern State on Dec. 15 before falling to Montevallo in its return to GSC play. CBU picked up its first conference win with an 81-71 victory over AUM on Dec. 21 before opening 2025 with a 63-61 win over West Alabama. The Bucs fell to UAH on Jan. 4 before picking up a 59-55 win over West Florida on the road. CBU then went on a five-game losing streak with losses to Valdosta State, Trevecca, Lee, Delta State and Mississippi College. Most recently, CBU added a 57-56 win over Union on Jan. 30.

Since 1997, Montevallo holds an 11-9 record against the Buccaneers with the Falcons having a 6-3 record at home against CBU. Since the Falcons rejoined the GSC, Montevallo is 6-5 against the Bucs with CBU taking the last meeting, 81-65, on Feb. 15, 2024.
