MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team hits the road to face off against No. 17 Union (2/6) and Christian Brothers (2/8) this week.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo holds an overall record of 9-11 and a 7-8 mark in GSC play. The Falcons opened the season in Montgomery, falling to No. 16 Nova Southeastern and Embry-Riddle in the GSC/SSC Challenge. The Falcons split the next two road contests, defeating Shorter 52-51 and falling to Spring Hill 78-69. UM closed non-conference play with a dominant 94-67 win over UT Southern at home.
The Falcons opened conference play with home wins over No. 15 Lee (67-59) and Trevecca Nazarene (57-40). Montevallo followed that up with a pair of road contests, falling to Delta State (61-59) and Mississippi College (58-48). Montevallo closed 2024 splitting a pair of games, earning an 82-79 double overtime victory over Christian Brothers, and falling to No. 17 Union 71-65. Montevallo opened the new year facing off against three in-state opponents. The Falcons fell to Auburn Montgomery (88-69) and Alabama Huntsville (67-61, OT), before defeating West Alabama 70-60. The Falcons split a pair of home contests, defeating Valdosta State in overtime 69-64 and falling to West Florida 70-67. Montevallo split its next two weekly conference series, defeating Trevecca Nazarene (56-43) and falling to Lee (76-53) on the road, while falling to Mississippi College (52-78) and defeating Delta State 50-48 most recently at home.
Aubrey Sorrells had a solid weekend against Mississippi College and Delta State, leading her to garnering her eighth consecutive GSC Freshman of the Week award. On the season, Sorrells leads the team in scoring with 12.7 points per contest.
Montevallo is averaging 62.6 points per game, while shooting 38.3 percent from the floor, including a 28.2 percent clip from long range. Opponents are averaging 65.7 points, while shooting 42.4 percent from the floor with a 33.2 percent clip from distance. The Falcons are averaging 35.0 rebounds, 10.7 assists, and 7.9 steals.

Union responded with wins over Williams Baptist and Illinois Springfield, before falling to No. 5 Ashland. The Lady Bulldogs opened GSC action with an 85-59 win over Delta State and a 77-66 win over Mississippi College. Union followed that up with a non-conference win over Kentucky State. The Lady Bulldogs continued conference play strong, with seven consecutive wins over Christian Brothers (99-52), Auburn Montgomery (70-56), Montevallo (71-65), Alabama Huntsville (66-62), West Alabama (104-69), Valdosta State (72-63), and West Florida (86-69), before dropping its first conference matchup to Lee 84-81 in overtime. Union responded with four wins in a row, defeating Trevecca Nazarene 77-59, Mississippi College 70-62, Delta State 71-67, and Christian Brothers 98-55.
Union leads the GSC in scoring, averaging 83.4 points per game while allowing 67.2 points. The Lady Bulldogs also lead the league in three-point fields made per game, averaging 11.8.
