MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team dropped a midweek matchup, Tuesday, to Spring Hill, 16-6, at Kermit A. Johnson Field and Bob Riesener Stadium.
Connor Crowson and
McGwire Turner each continued impressive offensive seasons by each reaching base for the 23
rd consecutive game. Errors, however, hurt the Falcons during the midweek matchup as the team committed four.
After a pitcher's duel through the first three frames, Spring Hill struck first with two runs in the fourth inning. The Badgers went on to add seven more between the next three frames, to lead 9-0.
Through the first seven inning, three of Spring Hill's nine runs were unearned, due to three Falcon errors.
Montevallo finally answered the Badgers in the bottom of the seventh with a four-spot that featured RBI hits from
Connor Crowson,
Evan Radford,
Logan Harbin and
Zen Hiatt.
In the eighth inning, reigning Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week
Jacob Pearl trimmed the deficit to four, 9-5, with an RBI double to center.
Spring Hill's offense came alive and halted a UM comeback by scoring seven additional runs in the top of the ninth inning, including three that were unearned.
Landon Leake hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth, making the score 16-6.
