MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team scores a program record 33 runs against Miles on Wednesday, Mar. 19 at Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener Stadium. With the win, the Falcons improve to 14-13 while the Golden Bears fall to 15-9-1.
In the first inning, Falcons starting pitcher,
Seth Gurr, set the tone with a quick 1-2-3 inning. Montevallo responded with a 14-run inning including three homers. UM started the inning with seven consecutive batters reaching base.
After a lead off walk by
Jacob Pearl,
Connor Crowson and
McGwire Turner were hit by pitches to load the bases with no outs.
Evan Radford would drive in the first run of the game with an infield single to third base. The Miles third baseman's throw to first was off line, letting Turner score from second.
Logan Harbin hit a double to center to score Crowson.
Zen Hiatt and
Payton Stephenson followed with RBI singles of their own.
Dominic Maldet blasted his first home run of the season with a three-run shot to extend the Falcon lead to 8-0. Montevallo batted around as
McGwire Turner would hit his fifth homer of the season with a two-run long ball. After Hiatt hit his second RBI single of the inning,
Payton Stephenson went yard for the first time in 2025 with a three-run jack to left.
Miles scored their lone run of the ballgame with a two-out RBI single to center in the single inning.
In the bottom of the second,
McGwire Turner and
Connor Crowson would drive in runs with RBI singles to push the UM lead to 16-1. Crowson would earn another RBI with a bases loaded walk in third inning.
Zach Wyatt and
Sam Patrick would toss scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth. In the bottom half of the fourth, Montevallo pushed across four consecutive runs with four RBI singles in a row from Kleyn, Cartwright, Turner and Crowson. The Falcons scored their 23
rd run of the game with a double from
Carson Wideman with two outs in the inning.
Mitchell Rhodes then came on for the Falcons in the fifth inning. Rhodes retired the Golden Bears in order with a strikeout and two fly outs.
Zac Carlisle kept the momentum going with his first home run of the 2025 campaign with a solo shot to left center.
Riley Thuringer earned an RBI with a bases loaded hit by pitch. After
Ian Cartwright scored on a wild pitch,
Preston Bedford joined the RBI party as he drove in Turner with a ground out to the Miles second baseman.
Easton Kleyn would score the Falcons 28
th, 29
th and 30
th runs of the ballgame with a three-run moonshot over the trees in left field. UM would hit another three-run homer as
Riley Thuringer drove home Turner and Cartwright with his third home run of the season.
Landen Walker would strikeout three batters in the top of the seventh to secure the run rule and the Falcons 13
th win of the season.
