VALDOSTA, GA – The University of Montevallo baseball team captures their third GSC series of the season as they defeated Valdosta State 2-1 in the first game of their double-header. The Blazers salvaged the finale as they won 12-1. With the series victory, Montevallo is now 16-14 and 9-9 in GSC play while VSU is 16-14 and 11-6 in conference play.
GAME ONE
Both pitchers were on early as it was zero's all the way till the fourth inning.
Gino Cozzi did a nice job of keeping the Blazers off the scoreboard early. Cozzi only allowed two hits through the first three innings. He walked three but was able to work around the free passes.
In the fourth inning,
Evan Radford led off with a double down the left field line.
Logan Harbin moved Radford to third with a ground out to second.
Luke Mitchell drove Radford in with a sacrifice fly to center. Now pitching with the lead,
Gino Cozzi fired his most dominant inning of the afternoon as he retired the Blazers in order while picking up his second batter of the outing.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Valdosta State worked the bases loaded with a single and two walks.
Mason Creacy on in relief of Cozzi and got the final out of the inning with a weak ground out back to Creacy.
The Falcons struck again in the sixth, started by a single up the middle by
McGwire Turner. Turner advanced to third on
Evan Radford's second double of the game.
Logan Harbin had a nice at bat which results in an RBI ground out to score Turner. With one on, one out in the bottom half of the inning,
Mason Creacy struck out the second batter of the inning.
Dominic Maldet completed the strike 'em out, throw 'em out as he nailed the runner trying to take second.
Montevallo went down in order in the top of the seventh. Valdosta State had second and third with two out, but Creacy struck out the last batter to get out of the inning.
With one out in the eighth, the Falcons turned to their closer,
Garrett Sloan. Sloan induced a fly out for the second out of the inning. The runner on first tried to move up an extra 90 feet but
Evan Radford threw him out at second.
In the ninth, VSU came within one as they scored on a passed ball. After a walk to make it first and second with two outs, Sloan struck out the final batter of the ballgame to secure the series win and his ninth save of the season.

GAME TWO
Valdosta State quickly jumped on top of the Falcons with a two-run homer in the first.
Evan Radford got UM on the board with a solo homer in the second.
The Blazers exploded for eight runs on six hits in the fourth inning to take a 10-1 lead. They had five singles and one homer in the inning. VSU added two more runs in the fifth with an RBI double and an RBI single.
Blazer pitching was able to hold the Falcons to their second lowest hit total in a game this season with five.

GAME NOTES
- Luke Mitchell drove in his first RBI of 2025 while Logan Harbin picked up RBI no. 17 in game one.
- Mason Creacy earned his second win of the season as he went 2.1 innings, allowed three hits and one walk. Creacy struck out three and had his fifth scoreless outing where he went more than one inning.
- Garrett Sloan collected his ninth save of the season and he is now tied for second in Montevallo's program history in single-season saves.
- Gino Cozzi gave the Falcons a great start on the mound as he went 4.2 innings as he scattered three hits. Cozzi allowed no earned runs and struck out three.
- Evan Radford had more than one hit in every game this series. He had seven hits, two homers two doubles and two RBI.
- Zach Wyatt pitched a scoreless 1-2-3 inning in game two while he struck out two.

Montevallo will step out of GSC play as they take on the Emmanuel Lions on Wednesday, Mar. 26. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CT at Tommy Carey Baseball Field.
