Falcons Drop Road Meeting at Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Montevallo women's lacrosse slid to 5-6 overall after a 20-13 road loss to Palm Beach Atlantic in the Falcons' final nonconference contest of the regular season.
 
The Sailfish found the first goal of the day early, but Kiley Shea started her career day with a goal at the 12:46 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Just two minutes later, sophomore Ellery Shearer gave Montevallo a 2-1 lead with her first of the day. PBA regained control with a pair of goals midway through the first but back-to-back goals from Shea gave Montevallo a 4-3 lead with 4:05 left. Falcon goalkeeper Ashlei Piazza added a pair of saves to send Montevallo to the second quarter with a one-goal lead.
 
Montevallo took five shots to open the second, but PBA would score the first goal at the 10:04 mark to tie the game at four apiece. Shea scored her fourth goal of the first half on a penalty kill for the Falcons to pushed UM back out in front with 8:38 to play. The Sailfish scored four unanswered goals over the next four minutes to take an 8-5 lead. Shea scored the third Montevallo free-position goal of the day to end the run, but PBA would end the half with two more goals to take a 10-6 lead into the break.
 
Shea tied her previous career best at the 12:07 mark of the third quarter to answer an opening goal from PBA. The Sailfish pushed the lead out to 14-7 with back-to-back goals before Chloe Norman got on the board with 6:09 left in the third. Shea's seventh goal of the day came with 3:44 in the third quarter off an assist from Ariyah Ellis to set a new career high for the Hoover, Ala. native.
 
PBA scored the first two goals of the second quarter to take a 17-9 advantage before Shearer scored her second of the day on an unassisted effort. Shearer answered yet another PBA goal with just 7:12 remaining to make the score 18-11. Lily Moats and Bridget Quayle would score the final two goals of the game but the Sailfish would hold on for a 20-13 win over Montevallo.
