BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a phenomenal freshman campaign, Aubrey Sorrells was named the 2024-25 Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Year, conference officials announced Tuesday.

Sorrells has built a historical initial season, breaking the GSC record with eleven Freshman of the Week awards this year. Sorrells also garnered the most conference weekly awards by any player in program history, and the most consecutive conference weekly awards by any player in program history and in the GSC (nine consecutive).

The Hamilton, Ala. native closed the regular season averaging 11.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, which both rank top-20 in the GSC. Montevallo's leading scorer has reached double figures in scoring in 18 of the 26 games she has played in, while also recording three double-doubles.

Sorrells has been solid on the defensive end as well, recording 21 blocks on the year which ranks seventh overall in the GSC, along with 26 steals.

This marks the second consecutive year that Montevallo has garnered Freshman of the Year honors.

Sorrells and the Falcons return to action on Tuesday, March 4, for the GSC Quarterfinals at top-seeded Union.
