MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team out-slugs Georgia Southwestern 20-13 on Tuesday, Apr. 1. With the win, the Falcons snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 18-17 while the Hurricanes are now 23-13 with the loss.

Logan Medsker set the tone for the Falcons as he tossed a 1-2-3 inning including two strikeouts in the first. In the bottom half, Jacob Pearl and McGwire Turner would lead off the frame with back-to-back singles. Evan Radford put the Falcons in front with a base knock to center to score Pearl.

Georgia Southwestern responded in the second as they tied the game with an RBI fielder's choice. With two outs in UM's half of the second, McGwire Turner came through for Montevallo with a two RBI double off the base of the wall in right center.

The Hurricanes tied it again in the third as they had the first three base runners reach to start the inning. GSW scored on a single to center, then on a passed ball. Montevallo scored for the third consecutive inning as Logan Harbin grounded out to the third baseman to scored Evan Radford.

GSW would score three in the top of the fourth as they drew three walks, were hit by a pitch and a single up the middle. This would be the lone inning of the game where the Falcons did not score.

The lead would be extended in the fifth as the Hurricane would smack a two-run homer.

Montevallo exploded for eight runs in the inning on five hits. Landon Leake would pick up an RBI on an RBI fielders' choice. Radford scored on the play, then Zen Hiatt would come around on a throwing error by the GSW shortstop. With bases loaded and two outs, McGwire Turner would earn a four pitch walk where Leake would score to shorten the gap to 7-8. Connor Crowson singled up the middle to score two and to give the Falcons the lead. A batter later, Evan Radford hit a no-doubt moonshot over the deck in left center field to give the Falcons a 12-8 lead.

The Falcons would strike again in the sixth as they earned two runs on a pair of bases loaded walks by Jacob Pearl and McGwire Turner.

GSW fought back in the seventh as they would load the bases with two outs after two Falcons free passes. Two back-to-back singles would drive in three runs to bring the Hurricanes within three.

Logan Harbin drove home a run in the bottom of the seventh with one of his five singles on the day, this time a single to left. The Falcons would score two more on an error on the GSW shortstop.

The Hurricanes scored two in the eighth with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly. Montevallo tacked on three runs in the bottom half as Carson Wideman singled to center with the infield in. Jacob Pearl hit his second RBI single of the game to drive in Wideman. McGwire Turner would walk for the fifth time in the ballgame a batter later to bring home another run.
