ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Montevallo women's lacrosse slips to 5-9 on the season following a 16-5 loss to No. 11 Flagler on the road.
Flagler jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes despite a pair of saves from
Ashlei Piazza. The sophomore keeper added another pair of saves before the Saints extended the lead to four with 2:48 left in the first.
Claire Withington's woman-up goal at the 2:27 mark finally put the Falcons on the board. Flagler would score again to hold a 5-1 lead going to the second.
The Saints held Montevallo scoreless for nearly the entire second quarter to take an 11-1 lead with just 1:05 until half time. Freshman
Asha Jamieson ended the run from the Saints to send the game to the half with Montevallo trailing 11-2.
Kiley Shea drew first blood in the second half at the 12:04 mark to cut the lead down to eight with her first of the day. Flagler then scored a trio of unanswered goals to go back up by 11 with 8:38 left in the third.
Lily Moats added Montevallo's fourth goal of the day with 3:51 left in the quarter before Piazza added a ninth save to send the game to the fourth.
Flagler scored the first two goals of the final quarter to take a 16-4 lead with just 9:24 to play.
MacKenzie Griffin took Piazza's spot in the net and added a pair of save before Shea scored the final goal of the day with just 22 seconds left for the 16-5 final score.
