GREENWOOD, S.C. – Montevallo men's lacrosse's 2025 campaign ends after a 12-7 loss to second-seeded Flagler in the Peach Belt Conference semifinals.
The first six minutes of the game featured a defensive battle with
Alex Egorshin tallying a pair of saves before
Matthew Boas finally broke the ice at the 9:05 mark to give UM a 1-0 lead. The defenses held strong for the nest four minutes with just one shot in that time, but Flagler would tie the game at the 5:32 mark. Just over a minute later, Boas added his second of the day before
Caden Chalut scored on a pass from
Samuel Martin to give Montevallo a 3-1 advantage. Egorshin added another save to send the game to the second with Montevallo leading by two.
Flagler controlled possession to open the second quarter with four shots, including two on goal, in the first four minutes. The Saints would bring the Falcons' lead down to just one with 9:36 left in the half. Just a few moments after he hit the crossbar, Boas tallied his third of the half to stretch Montevallo's lead to 4-2 with 6:00 on the clock. Egorshin would add a trio of saves before Flagler answered with just over a minute until halftime to send the game to the break with a 4-3 Montevallo lead.
Boas continued his strong outing with the first goal of the second half just 41 seconds into the third. Flagler would find the back of the net just two minutes later to keep the score within one at 5-4 UM. The Saints would take their first lead of the night at the 10:16 mark of the third before
John Spaans tied the game with 6:24 remaining. Just 18 seconds later, Spaans assisted on a
Michael Howkins goal that gave Montevallo a 7-6 lead. Flagler would end the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 10-7 lead into the fourth.
Montevallo's attack struggled in the fourth with just five shots over the 15-minute span. Flagler would extend its lead to 12-7 with a pair of unanswered goals. Depsite a trio of saves from Egorshin to close the game, Montevallo could not make up the difference and fell, 12-7, to close the season.
