MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team has clinched their spot into the 2025 Gulf South Conference Tournament with their win against Auburn Montgomery on Saturday, Apr. 26. The Falcons split with the Warhawks on the day as AUM won the first game 13-12, but the Falcons salvaged game three of the series 14-4.
GAME ONE
Jacob Pearl led off the game with a line drive that got by the AUM first baseman. The ball went all the way to the right field wall as Pearl advanced to third. He would score a batter later off a single off the bat of
McGwire Turner. The Warhawks tied the game in the bottom of the first with a two out walk that came around to score on an RBI triple.
The Falcons answered with four runs on four hits in the second, highlighted by a
Logan Harbin lead off single, a
Landon Leake double, a
Mitchell Walker two RBI single. The other two runs scored on a throwing error by the AUM third baseman that went up the first base line.
Montevallo tacked on four more runs in the third as
Luke Mitchell scored on a fielder's choice.
McGwire Turner stepped to the plate with bases juiced with two out and drove home all three runs with a single to right. The Warhawks did a nice job of getting those runs back as they put up four runs of their own in the bottom of the third with five singles in the inning. AUM would tie the ball game in the fourth with a three-run homer.
UM scratched one across in the seventh as they capitalized on a two-out error on AUM.
Connor Crowson launched his 16
th long ball of the season in the top of the eighth to give UM a 12-9 lead.
Auburn Montgomery scored their 10
th run of the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth. AUM took the lead later in the inning with a three-run homer. The Warhawks retired UM in order in the top of the ninth to clinch the series.

GAME TWO
Like game one, game two produced fireworks in the first inning. The Falcons loaded the bases with one out, then
Logan Harbin brought home
Jacob Pearl to take the early lead.
McGwire Turner scored on a fielder's choice. With two outs,
Ian Cartwright came through with a two-out, two RBI single to score Crowson and Walker. AUM answered with two runs in the bottom half with an RBI single and a groundout where UM rolled a double-play.
The Warhawks tied the game in the second inning with back-to-back RBI singles with two outs.
Both teams went scoreless in the third. The Falcons turned to
Zach Wyatt out of the bullpen with two on, no out. Wyatt would induce a line out then would strikeout the final two batters of the inning with bases loaded.
In the fourth inning,
Ian Cartwright picked up another RBI as he doubled to center to score
Mitchell Walker from first.
Zach Wyatt escaped another bases loaded jam with a swinging strikeout and a ground ball to end the inning.
Wyatt continued to carve the Warhawks batters as he retired AUM in order with a foul out and two pop ups. After
Connor Crowson walked to lead off the sixth,
Logan Harbin got all of his fifth home run of the season as it left the AUM Baseball Complex in a hurry. Wyatt picked up another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the sixth.
The Falcons blew the game wide open with a seven-run top of the seventh. Crowson had an RBI double, Cartwright and Kleyn picked up RBI singles and
Ethan Huddleston blasted his fourth long ball of the season.
Zach Wyatt closed out the ball game and ended his dominated outing by retiring the final 11 batters of the game. Wyatt picked up his first win of the season as he went five innings and struck out five. He only allowed one hit and no earned runs to help the Falcons clinch their spot in the GSC Tournament.
