Falcons Drop Road Contest at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Montevallo women's lacrosse falls to 0-2 in conference play after dropping a road matchup to Lee, 18-10, on Saturday night.
 
Lee took control early with three goals in the first five minutes with Montevallo taking just one shot on goal to open the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashlei Piazza tallied her first save of the day before Lee added another three goals to take a 6-0 lead. Amber Lynch finally got the Falcons on the board with just 1:38 left in the first as the Falcons trailed 6-1 heading to the second.
 
Piazza added another pair of saves to open the second, but Lee scored another trio of unanswered goals to take a 9-1 lead with 8:19 left in the half. Montevallo scored back-to-back goals from Lynch and Claire Withington to trim the lead down to 9-3 with just 1:24 left in the half. Lee ended the half with a pair of goals to hold an 11-3 advantage going into the locker room.
 
Out of the break, Chloe Norman answered a Lee goal at the 13:32 mark but Lee would push its lead out to 15-4 with a 3-0 run over the next five minutes. Sophomore Ellery Shearer took advantage of a Lee penalty and scored her first of the day at the 4:59 mark of the third. Piazza added another save as Lee led, 15-5, heading into the fourth.
 
Lee pushed its lead to 12 with a pair of goals to start the fourth before Jenna Piazza found the back of the net with 9:23 to play. Piazza added her second of the day just over a minute later to make the score 17-7 with 8:15 to play. Lee added another pair of goals to go up 18-8 with just 5:13 to play. Claire Withington and Ellery Shearer scored in the final minutes but couldn't spark a UM comeback as the Falcons fell 18-10.

GAME NOTES
  • Lee held a slim 34-26 lead in shots on the day while taking a 27-23 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Falcons won the turnover battle 17-13 but both sides recorded eight caused turnovers each.
  • Both sides picked up 17 ground balls with Lee controlling the draws with a 20-10 advantage in draw controls.
  • Claire Withington led Montevallo with three goals on six shots with all six on frame while picking up a draw control and a ground ball.
