MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team faced its second consecutive ranked opponent on Saturday evening, as the Falcons fell to No. 16 Nova Southeastern 4-1 at Varsity Field.
The Sharks struck first, recording a pair of shots, before finally finding the back of the net on its third shot attempt in the 11
th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Viktor Willems fired the first shot for Montevallo which was on goal in the 17
th minute, but it was saved by the NSU keeper. The Sharks responded a minute later, adding another goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Both teams traded shots, before NSU found the back of the net once again in the 30
th minute to extend the advantage to 3-0. Montevallo looked to respond before the half, as
Lucas Atria fired a shot, followed by a Tomas Prieto shot on goal in the 39
th minute.
Marc Velasco-Montoya added a shot in the 43
rd minute, but the Falcons were unable to cut into the deficit, as NSU took the 3-0 advantage into the break.
Montevallo came out of the half firing, as Willems and
Maurice Mueller recorded early shots in the 51' and 52'. The Sharks recorded a shot on goal in the 59
th minute, but a save from
Andre Etcheverry denied NSU the chance to extend its lead. The Falcons responded quickly as
Dakota Hart found
Dominic Kienzle who scored his third goal of the season in the 60
th minute, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
The Sharks provided a response of its own, adding another goal in the 64
th minute to extend the lead back to three goals, 4-1. The Falcons looked to go back on the offensive, firing a pair of shots in the 65
th minute, followed by a Hart shot on goal in the 66
th minute, which was saved by the NSU keeper.
Dawid Adamski provided one more shot on goal, but the score remained the same through the remainder of the contest, as the 16
th-ranked Sharks took home the 4-1 victory.
