JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Three different Falcons scored on Monday afternoon, as the Montevallo men's soccer team captured its first win of the season at Carson Newman, 3-1.
Carson-Newman struck first with an early shot on goal three minutes in, but
Andre Etcheverry recorded his first save to keep the Eagles off the board. Montevallo responded, earning a pair of corner kicks and firing four shots in the next ten minutes, including a shot on goal in the 13
th minute by
Dakota Hart, which was saved by the C-N keeper.
Carson-Newman went back on the offensive, firing four shots in a row, before a red-card on the Eagles in the 20
th minute would halt the home team's momentum and put C-N down a man for the remainder of the contest. Carson-Newman would regroup a few minutes later, earning a corner kick and ultimately scoring in the 25
th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Falcons looked to respond, as Hart fired his second shot on goal and
Marc Velasco-Montoya fired a shot that went far right.
Seth Acton provided the equalizer for Montevallo, capitalizing on a free kick in the 37
th minute to knot the score at one apiece. The Eagles recorded one more shot in the final eight minutes, but the score remained tied, 1-1, at the break.
Montevallo struck first in the second half, as
Dominic Kienzle and
Maurice Mueller fired back-to-back shots on goal in the 48
th minute.
Ian Palma ultimately found Kienzle who scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 60
th minute to put the Falcons in front, 2-1.
Carson-Newman looked to respond with a shot on goal in the 79
th minute, but Etcheverry would record his second save of the contest, keeping Montevallo ahead. The Eagles continued to push for an equalizer, but the Falcons sealed the deal late, as
Victor Flores found Tomas Prieto who scored his first collegiate goal in the 86
th minute to put the Falcons in front for good, 3-1. The Eagles failed to respond in the final minutes, as Montevallo secured its first victory of the season.
