Falcons Open Conference Play With Two Road Matchups

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer is set to open the Gulf South Conference season this week with trips to Auburn Montgomery and Valdosta State.

The Falcons enter Wednesday's meeting with AUM with a 1-2 overall record after topping Anderson to open the season before falling to back-to-back ranked opponents in No. 21 Florida Tech and No. 19 Catawba. Senior Bear Bradbury is tied for the top points on Montevallo's squad with two points on a goal against FIT on Sept. 9. In goal, Jolie Cazale and Ciara Duff lead the team with five saves each while Duff owns the Falcons' lone clean sheet of the season. Morgan Goehring leads the team with 260 minutes while firing 12 shots with four on frame.
 
Auburn Montgomery holds a 1-2 record heading into conference action after falling to Florida Tech and Coker with a 3-2 win over Edward Waters on Sept. 8. A trio of Warhawks lead the team with a goal apiece while three more athletes each own one assist. In goal, Karla Guzman-Ortiz has tallied a total of 24 saves through three games while allowing nine goals on 47 shots faced.
 
Valdosta State enters Saturday's matchup with a 1-1-2 overall record after opening the season with a pair of 1-1 draws before falling to Georgia College on Sept. 11. The Lady Blazers' first victory of the season came on Sept. 14 with a 1-0 win over Georgia Southwestern. Taylor Youmans leads VSU with a pair of goals on nine shots with five on frame while Anna Dandeneau owns the lone assist on the season. In goal, Claire Timberlake tallied a total of 21 saves on 45 shots faced with six goals allowed in four starts.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Montevallo leads the all-time series against AUM with an 11-2-1 record with the Falcons going 7-0-1 in the last eight meetings.
  • The Falcons also lead the series with Valdosta State with a 5-4-1record since 2011 with Montevallo going 5-0-1 in the last six meetings.
  • Montevallo's offense has struggled to find the back of the net to start the season with just two goals on a total of 48 shots through three games.
  • The Falcons' defense has allowed 1.67 goals per game on an average of 10.0 shots per game with .567 shots on goal percentage.
  • Valdosta State allows 1.50 goals per game on an average of 11.3 shots per game while the Warhawks have struggled defensively with 3.00 goals per game on 17.7 shots per game.
  • Wednesday's meeting with AUM marks the first Gulf South Conference game across the entire league.
