MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer improved to 3-0 in league play after a 1-0 win over West Alabama in a Wednesday night battle on Varsity Field.
Montevallo come out with their foot on the gas with three shots in the first two and a half minutes with senior
Bear Bradbury firing the Falcons' first shot on goal of the night just 2:23 into the matchup. The Falcons fired another trio of shots over the next seven minutes for
Lainey Farabaugh broke the ice off an assist from Bradbury in the 12
th minute. In the 39
th minute,
Katelynn Kott nearly beat the Tigers' keeper but was denied on the breakaway chance. UM's defense held firm throughout the first half with UWA's first shot of the game coming with less than two minutes on the clock.
Madysen Legere looked to extend UM's lead late in the first but UWA's goalkeeper kept the score at 1-0 heading into the break.
In a near mirror image of the start of the game, Montevallo's
Isabel Dillehay made the UWA keeper work again with a shot on frame just five minutes into the half. Montevallo's stiff defense continued in the second half with UWA's final shot of the game coming in the 54
th minute. The Falcons added another pair of dangerous chances from
Morgan Goehring and
Janelle Torres but both Falcons were denied by the keeper. The final shot of the game came off the foot of
Ayla Ertekin in the 85
th minute that beat the keeper but not the crossbar. The Falcons held on for the final five minutes to move to top of the league table with another 1-0 win.
