Kienzle's Hat Trick Powers Falcons to 3-2 Victory at Trevecca

NASHVILLE, Tenn.Dominic Kienzle's hat trick powered Montevallo Men's Soccer to its first Gulf South Conference victory of the season, as the Falcons took down Trevecca Nazarene, 3-2, on Sunday.

Kienzle is the first Falcon to record a hat trick since Nemanja Acimovic against Christian Brothers on Sept. 14, 2019.

The Trojans struck first with the first shot of the game in the fourth minute, before UM's Dominic Kienzle recorded the first shot on goal of the contest for either side in the ninth minute. The Trojans went back on the offensive, firing four shots in the 17th minute, with one of those being on goal. Viktor Willems responded, recording a shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the Trojans would find the back of the net 40 seconds later to take a 1-0 advantage.

After both sides traded possessions for the next few minutes, Trevecca looked to strike again in the 34th minute, earning a free kick and ultimately taking a shot that missed high. Montevallo drove down the field and looked to capitalize off a free kick of its own in the 37th minute. Lucas Atria fired a shot on goal which was saved by the Trojan keeper, and Marc Velasco-Montoya followed that up with a shot that missed high. Dakota Hart recorded one more shot on goal for the Falcons, but the Trojans would take its 1-0 lead into the break.

Montevallo opened the second half with an early shot from Sebastian Flores off a free kick opportunity in the 47th minute. The Falcons fired another shot five minutes later, as Ian Palma fired a shot that was blocked. Both teams traded shots through the next few minutes, before Dominic Kienzle scored his fifth goal of the season (assisted by Alexander Mueller and Seth Acton) to tie the game at one goal apiece in the 59th minute. The Trojans quickly responded with a goal in the 62nd minute to regain the lead, 2-1. The Falcons looked to build a response of its own, as Seth Acton fired a pair of shots with one being on goal, in the 64th minute. Montevallo continued to push with shots from Tomas Prieto, Viktor Willems, and Dylan Morman in the next few minutes.

Both teams fired shots on goal in the 80th minute, with Montevallo's coming off the foot of Benjamin Williams. Trevecca would commit a costly foul in the box a minute later, giving the Falcons a chance to tie the game with a penalty kick in the 81st minute. Kienzle connected on the penalty kick, as his second goal of the contest tied the game at two goals apiece. The Trojans looked to regain the lead after a Falcon red card, but failed to convert on a free kick opportunity with a shot that went wide right.

Both teams possessed the ball through the next few minutes, before Kienzle captured a hat trick with his third goal of the game in the 88th minute to put the Falcons in front for the first time, 3-2. Montevallo held on in the final minutes to capture its first GSC victory of the season.
