ANDERSON, S.C. – Montevallo women's soccer opened the 2025 campaign with a 1-0 win over Anderson on the road on Thursday evening.
Anderson came out of the gate on the front foot with a pair of shots on goal in the opening two minutes with junior goalkeeper
Ciara Duff stopping both shots.
Shadia Valenzuela fired the first Falcons shot of the game but missed the mark before Duff added a third save in the eighth minute to keep the game locked at 0-0. The Falcons fended off a quartet of Trojan shots in the middle third of the half before
Bear Bradbury fired the final shot of the opening 45 minutes with just four minutes remaining. With neither side finding the back of the net, the game went to the half in a 0-0 draw.
A dangerous chance from junior
Morgan Goehring just five minutes into the second half looked to put the Falcons on top but careened off the woodwork. In the 64
th minute, Valenzuela, the Falcons' top scorer from a season ago, broke the stalemate on an unassisted effort to give UM a 1-0 lead. In the 75
th minute, Duff went back to work with a pair of saves separated by just over a minute of game time to keep the Falcons out in front. With just two minutes left, Anderson saw one final chance to force the tie but missed the mark giving Montevallo its first win of the 2025 campaign.
