MONTEVALLO, Ala. – For just the second time in Montevallo men's basketball Div. II history, a Falcon has been named NABC/D2CIDA National Player of the Week after
Derek Moore earned the national weekly honor.

Moore's historical award marks the first time a Falcon has earned the honor since
Braxton Bertolette's National Player of the Week Selection back on Feb. 28
th, 2023, and is the third Gulf South Conference student-athlete to win the award since the NABC/D2CIDA National Player of the Week award began in the 2024-25 season. His selection is the first by any GSC men's basketball student-athlete in the 2025-26 season.
In the last two games, Moore averaged 36.5 points per game on a 66.7-percent mark from the field while shooting 87.1 percent from long range with 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game. In Montevallo's meeting with Valdosta State on Jan. 15, Moore tallied a total of 22 points on 7-for-8 shooting and 7-for-9 from the stripe while adding six rebounds, two assists and one block.
Moore then added a record-setting performance in a road win over Wes Florida on Jan. 17 with a Montevallo single-game record of 51 points on 15-for-25 shooting with 29 points coming in the second half for the highest mark in the nation so far this season. Moore then tied another Montevallo record with 20 made free throws on a total of 22 attempts while pulling down eight boards, dishing out two assists and recording a block. Moore is now one of just three Falcons to score at least 50 points in a single game in Montevallo's NCAA Div. II history.
