Women's Basketball Heads to Mississippi for Two-Game Road Trip

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team is set to head west for road games at Mississippi College (Jan. 29) and Delta State (Jan. 31) this week.

Montevallo holds an overall record of 3-15 and a 2-11 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Falcons dropped a pair of games last weekend, falling to Trevecca Nazarene and Lee. Emily Mouser had a solid week, averaging 13.5 points and 5.5 rebounds to ultimately secure her third GSC Freshman of the Week honor. Shalexia Little was solid against Lee, recording 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting in 16 minutes.

The Falcons average 54.9 points, while shooting 36.1-percent from the floor and 28.4-percent from beyond the arc. On the season, Mouser leads the team in scoring (11.4 ppg), assists (56), and steals (19), while Elyse Hughes leads the team in rebounding (5.6 rpg).

Mississippi College holds an overall record of 6-11 and a 5-7 mark in GSC play. The Choctaws dropped its lone game of the week at Union, 84-53. MC averages 64.6 points, while shooting 38.9-percent from the floor and 26.4-percent from beyond the arc. Nia Coleman leads the Choctaws in scoring and ranks tenth in the GSC, averaging 13.5 points. Valencia McFall leads the team in rebounding (5.3 rpg), while Vivian Sketoe holds team leads in assists (41) and steals (23).

Delta State holds an overall record of 9-8 and a 7-5 mark in GSC play. The Lady Statesmen won its lone game of the week, defeating Christian Brothers 71-35. DSU averages 62.1 points, while shooting 38.2-percent from the floor and 32-percent from beyond the arc. Jariyah Williamson leads the team in scoring (10.5 ppg) and assists (38), while Dakiya Toney leads the team in rebounding (6.4 rpg – ninth in GSC) and Olivia Allen leads the team in steals (31). Toney also ranks fifth in the GSC in total blocks with 12 rejections on the year.
