Box Score CLINTON, Miss. – Carlyn Burdette recorded a career-high 16 points on Thursday, as the Montevallo women's basketball team fell to Mississippi College, 60-52, inside of A.E. Wood Coliseum.
Burdette's 16 points led the way for the Falcons, while Kylee Norman scored 12.
The Choctaws opened the game with the first five points, before London Robinson found Julia Susla for the first Falcon field goal at 8:32. The Choctaws stretched its lead out to, 12-3, before back-to-back triples from Kylee Norman and Susla made it a one possession game, 12-9, at the 3:42 mark. The Choctaws responded with the next six points, before Alani Owens cashed in on a lay-in, as the Choctaws led, 18-11, at the end of the first.
Both teams traded a pair of baskets to open the second quarter, as Carlyn Burdette nailed a triple and Olivia Johnigan cashed in on a lay-in. The Falcons continued to push in the paint with back-to-back lay-ins from Johnigan and Susla, before a Burdette triple made it a four point game, 27-23, at the 5:37 mark. After a Choctaw lay-in, the Falcons continued to push, as three consecutive baskets from Robinson, Burdette, and Shalexia Little tied the game, 29-29, with 1:18 left in the second quarter. The Choctaws halted the Montevallo run with a lay-in, but Norman closed the half with four straight points to give Montevallo its first lead of the day, 33-31, at the break.
The Falcons scored the first three points of the second half, as a Burdette lay-in and Owens free throw put Montevallo ahead, 36-31. The Choctaws fired the next six points to regain the lead, 37-36, at the 8:03 mark. Owens halted the MC run with a lay-in, but the Choctaws scored four straight points to jump ahead, 41-38. Burdette responded with her third three-pointer to tie the game, 41-41, at the 4:44 mark. Defense for both teams dominated the latter half of the quarter, as Norman scored the only basket for the Falcons. The Choctaws held a, 45-43, advantage at the end of the third quarter.
A Choctaw free throw opened the fourth quarter, but Burdette's fourth three-pointer of the day tied the game, 46-46. Owens scored the next Falcon field goal to put UM back in front, 48-47, at the 5:43 mark. Elyse Hughes and Norman scored the next four points for the Falcons from the free throw line, as the Falcons led, 52-50, with 3:36 left in the contest. The Choctaws closed the game with a dominant 10-0 run to take home the, 60-52, victory.
