MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team is set to host a pair of in-state opponents this week, facing UAH (Jan. 8) and West Alabama (Jan. 10). Thursday's game against UAH will serve as the annual PACK the SAC game.
Montevallo enters the week with a 3-9 overall record and a 2-5 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Falcons last saw action on Sunday, falling to AUM, 56-45, inside of Central State Bank Arena. Against the Warhawks, Audrey Hendrix led the way for Montevallo with 13 points.
On the season, Montevallo averages 54.6 points, while shooting 35.5-percent from the floor and 26.9-percent from long range. Elyse Hughes leads Montevallo in scoring (10.8 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg), while Emily Mouser leads the team in assists (39) and Kylee Norman holds a team leading 14 steals. Across the GSC, Mouser ranks seventh in assists per game and Hughes ranks ninth in rebounds per game.
UAH enters the week at the top of the conference standings, holding a perfect 8-0 mark in GSC play, along with a 13-3 overall record. The Chargers went 3-0 this past week, defeating LaGrange (84-34), Union (88-84, OT), and Christian Brothers (84-41).
UAH averages 79.9 points, while ranking first in the conference in field goal percentage (.477) and three-point field goal percentage (.381). Reigning GSC Player of the Year-Lili Wilken leads the way for the Chargers and ranks first in the league in scoring (20.3 ppg), third in field goal percentage (.515), and sixth in rebounding (7.5 rpg). Millie Brown leads the GSC in three-point field percentage (.433) and ranks second in three-point field goals per game (2.6). Bella White leads the team and ranks fourth in the GSC in total assists (48).
West Alabama enters the week with a 5-6 record and a 3-5 mark in GSC play. The Tigers split a pair of contests last week, defeating Christian Brothers (67-57) and falling to Union (86-65).
West Alabama averages 65.7 points, while shooting 40.5-percent from the floor and 28.3-percent from long range. The Tigers sit at the top of the conference in rebounding, averaging 42.5 boards and rank second in blocks (38). Bellah Machen leads the way for the Tigers, ranking third in the GSC in scoring (16.2 ppg) and sixth in field goal percentage (.446). Haley Nichols ranks fifth in the league in rebounding (7.8 rpg), while Shay Hunter ranks fifth in assists per game (3.5).
