Women's Soccer Claims First GSC Regular Season Title

MOBILE, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer secured the program's first ever Gulf South Conference regular season title after topping Spring Hill, 1-0, on Friday afternoon.

The Falcons attack got caught out early with three-consecutive offsides calls that ended scoring chances for UM in the first 20 minutes before Ayla Ertekin fired UM's first shot on goal of the day in the 24th minute. After around 20 minutes of neither side firing a shot, Batie Casey looked to put the Falcons on top with her first shot on goal of the day in the 43rd but was denied by the SHC keeper. Elise Marquardt added another UM shot on frame at the first half buzzer but was turned aside sending the game to the break in a scoreless tie.

Out of the break, Lainey Farabaugh looked to add to her GSC leading goal total with back-to-back shots on goal, but each were denied. In the 60th minute, Ertekin used a pass from Isabel Dillehay to score her 11th goal of the season and give Montevallo a 1-0 lead. Late in the half, Jolie Cazale stopped a pair of shots to keep the Falcons out in front before Marquardt added another UM shot on goal. Montevallo would hold on for the final few minutes to take its first regular-season title and set a record for the most wins in a regular season in program history.
