MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team returns to Gulf South Conference action this weekend with a pair of road matches against Valdosta State and Auburn University at Montgomery.
The Falcons open the weekend on Friday, Oct. 9, against Valdosta State at 5 p.m. CT in Valdosta, Georgia, before traveling to Montgomery, Alabama, to face AUM on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m.
Montevallo enters the weekend with a 11-6 overall record and a 4-3 mark in GSC play following Tuesday night's road match at Trevecca Nazarene.
FALCONS TO WATCH
Montevallo has posted a .206 hitting percentage through 17 matches with 795 kills, while holding its opponents to a .208 clip.
Katie Wilkerson leads the Falcon attack with 189 kills and 2.95 kills per set while hitting .233.
Eliza Tyrrell follows closely with 166 kills and 2.63 kills per set, while
Mallory Hulsey has added 116 kills at a 2.58-per-set pace.
At the net,
Lilly Singleton has been one of Montevallo's most efficient attackers, hitting a team-best .305 with 85 kills. Singleton also leads the Falcons with 34 total blocks. Elise Hanson has recorded 30 blocks, while Tyrrell has added 20.
Blakeley Robbins leads the offense with 346 assists and averages 5.41 assists per set, while
Lily Erdal has added 286 assists at 4.47 per set.
Defensively,
Ava Wind leads Montevallo with 295 digs and 4.84 digs per set.
Ellie Scharlow has totaled 313 digs and leads the Falcons with 23 service aces. Montevallo has recorded 125 aces through 17 matches compared to 97 by its opponents.
SCOUTING VALDOSTA STATE
Valdosta State enters Friday's matchup at 11-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Blazers have won two straight and are coming off consecutive road sweeps over Christian Brothers and Union.
VSU has produced 857 kills at 12.60 per set this season. The Blazers have also recorded 107 total blocks and 1,336 digs.
Eva LaRochelle leads the Valdosta State attack with 186 kills and 2.82 kills per set. Maddie Kilmer has added 139 kills, while Paola Aviles has totaled 118.
Avery Mullins directs the Blazer offense with 491 assists and 7.33 assists per set. Defensively, Eimy Negron Domenech has collected a team-high 376 digs at 5.61 per set, while Mullins has added 201.
Valdosta State's front row has also been productive defensively. Kilmer has 39 total blocks, Kinsley Timmons has 37 and Aviles has 31.
The Blazers swept Union in their most recent outing, holding the Bulldogs to a negative hitting percentage. LaRochelle led VSU with 13 kills, while Mullins handed out 29 assists.
SCOUTING AUM
AUM enters the week at 2-16 overall and 0-7 in GSC play.
AUM opened the season with wins over Tusculum and Lane but enters Wednesday's contest on a 13-match losing streak. In conference play, the Warhawks have dropped matches
to Trevecca Nazarene, Lee, Valdosta State, West Alabama, Mississippi Christian, Union and Christian Brothers.
Through 17 matches, Chelsea Daffin leads AUM with 184 kills and 2.75 kills per set. Mya Lacey has recorded 128 kills, while Jamya Powell has added 118.
Addison Vinson leads the Warhawks with 361 assists and 5.31 assists per set, with Kinsley Kennedy adding 147 assists.
Defensively, Amiliaa DeLeon has totaled a team-high 228 digs, followed by Vinson with 171 and Daffin with 161.
