Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball fell to No. 13 West Alabama, 66-54, on the road on Thursday night.
The Falcons took an early 5-2 lead behind a triple from
Jaylen Curry off a West Alabama turnover at the 17:19 mark of the first half. UWA responded to regain control before Curry and
Brandon Fussell scored back-to-back buckets at the cup to give Montevallo a 9-6 lead with 14:34 to go.
Derek Moore tallied a pair of buckets for the Falcons to give UM a 13-10 advantage before UWA went on a 7-2 run to retake the lead. Following the under-eight timeout, the Tigers went on a 12-4 run to take its largest lead of the half at 26-19 before Curry ended the run with a three in transition. Montevallo would tie the game at 29-29 with a 10-3 run capped by a triple from
Devon McKinnon. The Falcons closed the first 20 minutes on a 7-0 run to head into the locker room with a 33-29 lead after standing tall in the final defensive possession of the half.
Out of the half, West Alabama went on an 8-2 run to take a 37-35 lead before
Derek Moore knocked down a hook shot with 15:15 to tie the game at 37. Montevallo regained the league with trip to the line from Fussell before UWA used an 8-2 run to go up 45-41 before Moore ended the run with a finish in the paint. The Tigers used a 12-2 run to take a 57-45 lead with just 7:28 to play. The Falcons pulled back within seven with a 5-0 run behind three free throws from Curry to make the score 57-50 with 3:44 to play. Down the stretch, UWA outscored Montevallo 9-4 to take a 66-54 win over Montevallo.

- Montevallo struggled to score shooting just 36.8 percent from the floor while shooting 16.7 percent from deep but held UWA to 31.7 percent from the floor and 22.2 percent from deep.
- West Alabama controlled the glass with a 44-38 advantage in rebounds while adding 16 offensive rebounds to 10 from the Falcons.
- West Alabama scored a total of 21 second chance points with Montevallo scoring just seven.
- Brandon Fussell led Montevallo with 22 points on 9-for-18 shooting while adding a trio of assists.
- Jaylen Curry finished with 15 points on 4-of-10 shooting and 5-for-7 from the line while leading Montevallo with seven rebounds.
