MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team is set to close the regular season with a pair of home contests against West Florida (Feb. 25) and Valdosta State (Feb. 27). Friday's game against Valdosta State will serve as Senior Day where Montevallo will honor its four seniors, Mary Cartee, Elyse Hughes, Sidney Jones, and Jerrilyn Richardson.
Montevallo enters the week with a 5-20 overall record and a 4-16 mark in Gulf South Conference play.
The Falcons dropped a pair of contests last week, falling to West Alabama and UAH on the road. Elyse Hughes led the way for Montevallo, averaging 13.5 points and eight boards through the two games.
On the season, Montevallo averages 56.2 points, while shooting 36.9-percent from the floor and 28.3-percent from long range. Emily Mouser leads the team in scoring (11.6 ppg), assists (67), steals (27), while Hughes holds team leads in rebounding (5.5 rpg) and field goal percentage (.458).
West Florida enters the week with a 16-11 overall record and an 11-9 mark in GSC play. The Argos split a pair of contests last week, falling to Union and defeating Christian Brothers. The Argos average 71.8 points, while shooting 40.7-percent from the floor and 27.8-percent from long range. Isabel Grimes leads the team in scoring (14.2 ppg) and assists (88), while Amelia Bell leads the team in rebounding (8.6 rpg) and field goal percentage (.609).
Valdosta State enters the week with a 14-12 overall record and an 11-9 mark in GSC play. The Blazers split a pair of contests last week, defeating Christian Brothers and falling to Union. The Blazers average 69.1 points, while shooting 42.7-percent from the floor and 29.8-percent from long range. Erin Whalen leads the team in scoring (14.3 ppg), rebounding (8.7), assists (56), and steals (62), while Ayana Hicks holds a team leading .519 field goal percentage.
