MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo Women's Lacrosse team fell to No. 11 Saint Leo, 20-6, Sunday afternoon at home to wrap up its four-game homestand.
Saint Leo opened the contest with the first goal of the afternoon, but Montevallo answered at the 12:04 mark when
Mikaela Barbieri converted on a free-position opportunity to tie the game at 1-1. After the Lions regained the lead,
Ellery Shearer scored back-to-back goals, with one off an assist from Barbieri to make the score even at 3-3. Saint Leo came back with five straight goals to close out the opening frame and went into the second quarter 8-3.
The Lions continued to build momentum in the second, adding six goals in the quarter going into halftime. The Lions added three more goals in the third quarter before Shearer completed her hat trick with a free-position goal at the 4:17 mark to make it 16-4 heading into the final quarter.
Saint Leo extended their lead with four goals in the fourth quarter.
Claire Withington converted on a free position shot at 6:58, and
Asha Jamieson added a late goal off an assist from
Bridget Quayle at the 1:48 mark, but the Lions secured the 20-6 victory.
