WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Montevallo women's lacrosse's comeback effort falls short on the road at Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Sailfish jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of action before stretching the lead to 3-0 at the 9:39 mark of the first.
Claire Withington put the Falcons on the board with a man-up goal at the 6:27 mark with
Hannah Rudge credited with the assist. The minutes later, PBA stretched its lead to 4-1 before a save from
Ashlei Piazza sent the game to the second with the Falcons down by three.
To start the second, PBA added a pair of unanswered goals to push the lead out to 6-2 before
Ally Rich scored on an unassisted effort at the 7:18 mark to end the Sailfish scoring run. Piazza added another save but PBA would end the quarter with two more unanswered goals to lead 8-2 heading into the half.
The Falcons struck first in the third quarter with
Asha Jamieson's first goal of the day before
Ellery Shearer got on the board to trim the Sailfish lead down to 8-4 with 8:04 left in the third quarter. Withington continued the Falcons' run at the 5:43 mark to cut the lead down to just three with an assist from
Gencie Coan. The Sailfish answered with a pair of goals to close the third quarter with a 10-5 lead.
Freshman keeper
Kamryn Francosky opened the fourth with her third save of the second half before freshman Morgan Dodge scored to trim the lead down to four.
Bridget Quayle found the back of the net on a free-position shot before Shearer brought the Falcons within two with just 7:07 left to play. With 3:43 remaining, Jamieson's second goal of the day made the score 10-9 before Quayle tied the game at 10-10 with 1:34 remaining after her second free-position goal. With just 26 seconds left, PBA scored the game winner to take an 11-10 win over Montevallo.
