MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced its Men's Scholar All-American Awards on Thursday, recognizing seven Montevallo wrestlers for their achievements in the classroom and on the mat.
Sophomore Willie Cox earned NWCA Scholar All-American honors for the second consecutive year, while junior Carson Freeman collected his third career accolade. Graduate student Max Stedeford secured his second honor, and sophomore Cole Carter was named a Scholar All-American for the first time in his career. Freshmen Joseph Sowell, Joey Stephens, and Austin Presley each made an immediate impact, earning Scholar All-American distinction in their debut seasons.
According to the NWCA, student-athletes can qualify for Scholar All-American status by meeting one of the following criteria:
- Achieving All-American status at the 2026 NCAA Division II National Championships with a minimum 3.00 GPA
- Qualifying for the 2026 NCAA Division II National Championships with at least a 3.25 GPA
- Competing in four or more events while maintaining a 3.50 GPA
