MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Third-seeded Montevallo earned a 252.700-234.715 victory over sixth-seeded King in the Conference Carolinas quarterfinals on Tuesday evening. The Falcons advance to face No. 2-seed Lander in the semifinals on Saturday.
Montevallo opened the meet strong in the Compulsory Event, tying its season-high in the Acro heat with a 9.00. Identical scores of 9.65 in the Pyramid and Toss heats highlighted a Montevallo total score of 36.65 in the Compulsory Event. King finished with a 33.60.
The Falcons followed that up with a strong outing in the Acro Event. Lexie Cole, Rilyn McAllister, and Alesandra Vega earned a 9.85 in the Five-Element, while Katie Quinn, Corrine Wilcox, Katlyn Smith, and Raedyn Register recorded a 9.75 in the Seven-Element. The Falcons outscored the Tornado 28.25-24.90 in the Acro Event.
Montevallo closed the Pyramid Event strong, as Katie Quinn, Corrine Wilcox, Vanessa Portuoundo, Katlyn Smith, Morgan Wright, and Payton Roach tied a Montevallo season-high with a score of 9.75. The Falcons edged the Tornado in the Pyramid Event 28.45-27.70.
Montevallo's highest Toss score came in the 450 Salto heat where Katie Quinn, Ally Torres, Corrine Wilcox, Payton Roach, Zoey Cooper, and Katlyn Smith recorded a 9.00. The Falcons outscored the Tornado in the Team Event 26.55-24.75.
The Falcons followed that up with multiple strong performances in the Tumbling passes. Katie Quinn and Thabela Fashu-Kanu earned the second-highest Duo Pass score of the season (7.900), while Rilyn McAllister, Ally Torres, and Morgan Wright earned the second highest Trio Pass score of the season (8.000). Montevallo outscored King in the Tumbling Event 49.150-47.725.
The Falcons took home the Team Event, outscoring the Tornado 83.65-76.04.
