MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team is set to open the 2026 season this week, hosting Mars Hill on Thursday, Aug. 28.
Montevallo enters the season slated to finish fifth in the 2026 Gulf South Conference Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Falcons finished sixth in the GSC last season, closing the 2025 campaign with a 5-5-7 overall record and a 4-2-5 mark in league play.
A pair of Falcons received Preseason All-GSC honorees including senior
Dakota Hart and sophomore
Alex Mueller. Hart was solid in the midfield all last season and tallied one goal, two assists, and four points, while recording 21 shots and nine shots on goal. He helped the Montevallo defense secure five shutouts. Mueller had a strong freshman campaign, playing in and starting 13 games. Mueller helped the Falcons secure the five shutouts, while tallying an assist and seven shots.
Montevallo also returns goalkeeper
Andre Etcheverry. The Parish, Fla., native played in and started all 17 games last season in goal for the Falcons. Etcheverry recorded five clean sheets and tallied 66 saves in 1529 minutes of action.
Other key returners include
Tomas Prieto,
Ian Palma, and
Viktor Willems. Prieto tallied three goals and three assists, while tallying 24 shots with 13 being on goal during the 2026 campaign. Palma played in all 17 games and recorded two assists, ten shots, and four shots on goal. Willems played in 16 games and started 13, tallying two assists, 22 shots and six shots on goal.
Montevallo adds multiple newcomers, including a trio that were named on the GSC Newcomer Watchlist in
Luis Billep (Fr., M, Rostcock, Germany),
Ben Green (So., D, Prattville, Ala.), and
Joaquin Wladdimiro (So., F, Santiago, Chile).
The 2026 season is set to begin on Thursday, Aug. 27, as the Falcons host Mars Hill.
