ROME, Ga. – Montevallo volleyball went on the road to Shorter and picked up a 3-1 win on Tuesday night to improve to 10-4 on the season.
The opening set saw Montevallo take an early 8-3 lead with four points coming off Montevallo serves. Later in the set, the Falcons went on a 9-3 run to take a 22-13 lead after a pair of kills from
Katie Wilkerson and another ace this time from
Ellie Scharlow. Following a pair of errors from Shorter,
Eliza Tyrrell gave UM a 25-19 win in the first set with her second kill of the game.
Montevallo gained control early again in the second with a 12-7 lead behind a pair of kills from both Scharlow and Wilkerson.
Ava Wind stretched Montevallo's advantage to 18-10 with a set of back-to-back service aces. With the Falcons' offense slowing late in the second, Shorter went on a 9-3 run to tie the set at 24-24. After another Wilkerson kill to force set point,
Ava Wind's third ace of the set secured a 26-24 win and a 2-0 lead overall.
The Falcons again got out to a hot start in the third set with an eight-point lead early after three more Montevallo aces from
Lily Erdal. The Hawks responded with a 10-3 scoring run to knot the score at 15-15. Shorter continued its momentum late in the set with another long scoring run to take a 25-18 win and force a fourth set.
The early scoring in the fourth set was back-and-forth before a
Mae Mae Beatty ace sparked an 11-3 Montevallo run that featured four kills from Scharlow and an ace from
Blakeley Robbins to give the Falcons a 21-9 lead. An error from Shorter forced game point in the fourth set before Wilkerson got the final kill of the night to give Montevallo a 25-14 win in the set and a 3-1 win on the road.

- Shorter led the game with a total of 47 kills to 44 from the Falcons but Montevallo posted a .205 hitting percentage to a .184 mark from the Hawks.
- The Falcons set a new season-high with 18 service aces on the night while allowing just six from Shorter.
- UM tallied a total of 59 digs and 43 assists while Shorter posted 45 assists and 61 digs.
- Ellie Scharlow and Katie Wilkerson led Montevallo's offense with nine kills apiece while Scharlow added a pair of aces and 14 digs.
- Ava Wind tied a career high with six aces on the night while adding a game-high 28 digs and three assists.
- Blakeley Robbins dished out 20 assists on the night while adding a pair of service aces and a pair of digs.
