MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer knocked off No. 15 Tampa, 2-1, on Monday night to improve Montevallo to 3-1 to start the season.
Montevallo nearly drew first blood with an early shot from
Isabel Dillehay but a Tampa save kept the score level. A few minutes after
Madysen Legere played a shot on frame,
Emma Arkus would find the back of the net with a header from a
Karsyn Ross corner to give Montevallo a 1-0 lead in the 23
rd minute. The Falcons would see another three scoring chances but would hold a one-goal lead heading into halftime.
The Falcons came out of the half on a tear with five shots in the first 11 minutes before
Natalie Sligar would post her first-career goal in the 65
th minute to put the Falcons out in front 2-0. Tampa would cut the lead in half just a few seconds later with a penalty kick goal.
Ayla Ertekin nearly gave Montevallo a two-goal cushion but a save from Tampa kept the Falcons lead at one. Montevallo would hold on for the final few minutes to take its first ranked victory of the season.

- The Falcons were awarded three corners on the night with one going to Tampa while UM was booked for a pair of yellows with one issued to Tampa.
- Natalie Sligar's first career goal would eventually become the game winner with the sophomore posted a pair of shots with both on frame.
- Emma Arkus tallied her first goal of the season on a header with just her second shot of the game.
- Lainey Farabaugh and Karsyn Ross each posted an assist on the night.
