University of Montevallo Athletics

Tanner Stancil is entering his sixth season as the head coach of the University of Montevallo men's and women's tennis programs (2018-Present).

In 2023, Stancil led the women's tennis program to its second-consecutive winning season with a 10-9 overall record and a 5-5 GSC mark for a trip to the 2023 GSC Championship Tournament. On the men's side, Stancil led the squad to a GSC tournament appearance with an 8-10 overall record.

Prior to his arrival at UM, Stancil had spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Belmont Abbey College men's and women's tennis programs in Belmont, North Carolina (2015-2018). At Belmont Abbey, He was heavily involved in the recruiting process and scheduling team practices while assisting with all areas of the program. Stancil was named the ITA NCAA Division II Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year once during his tenure at Belmont Abbey.
He also spent one year at Montreat College in Montreat, North Carolina, where he spent one season as Director of Tennis.

Stancil began his collegiate coaching career at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee, where he spent two years as an assistant coach for the men's and women's tennis programs. He also previously coached at the club and high school level.

A four-year standout at Tennessee Wesleyan, Stancil was named team captain and earned Appalachian Athletic Conference Sportsman of the Year and All-Conference honors during his senior season.

Stancil graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2012.
