Courtney Van Atta begins her fourth season on the Montevallo women’s basketball coaching staff. Besides her coaching duties, her responsibilities with the team range from Summer camp director, to budget and travel director.
She spent the previous five years as the assistant women’s basketball coach at NCAA D2 Trevecca Nazarene University. As side from her coaching duties, Courtney was budget and travel director for the team. In her last two seasons, she added the title of assistant compliance officer helping Director Larry Knight with day to day compliance issues.
Before Trevecca, She spent the 2010-2011 season as an assistant at NCAA Division l Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW), her alma mater, where she was the number-one assistant and recruiting coordinator.
Before returning to IPFW, Van Atta (formerly Nicley) served as the women’s basketball head coach at Mid-Continent University in Mayfield, Kentucky. Prior to that Van Atta spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana.
Van Atta was a four-year letter winner as a player at IPFW and (as of 10/2013) ranks 13th in the school record books for career points with 1,018. Her freshman season was IPFW’s first as a member of NCAA Division I. She averaged a career-high 11.6 points per game as a junior in 2003-04, scoring 325 points, while dishing out 64 assists, pulling down a career-best 97 rebounds, and nabbing 39 steals from her guard position. Overall the Lebanon, Indiana native played in 106 games for the Blue and White, starting 92 of those while averaging 27.3 minutes per game.
At Western Boone High School, Van Atta was All-County, All-Conference, and All-Metro North. She led her team in points, steals, rebounds, and shooting percentage during her senior year, and finished her high school career averaging 20 points per game.
She is married to head coach Gary Van Atta and together the couple have three children, a 4 year old son named Kade, and 8 month old boy-girl twins named, Jayli Jean and Jase Paul.
