Montevallo bounces back with big 87-67 win

PENSACOLA, Fla. - After a disappointing late loss to Southwest Baptist the day before, the University of Montevallo women's basketball team was back in action Saturday against the Claflin Panthers. The Falcons put the previous day's loss behind them and earned an impressive 87-67 win.

The first half started with neither team able gain a significant lead. The back and forth play ended near the end of the half when Montevallo started to pull away. At one point, the Falcons were able to put together an 18-4 run, helping them establish a 12 point lead over the Panthers at halftime.

In the second half, Montevallo continued to put distance between themselves and Claflin, never letting the Panthers get back to within single digits and won the game 87-67.

Shay Bonner continued her stellar year, leading the Falcons in points (22), while shooting a fantastic 69.2%.

Taylor Beverly had another very productive game, scoring 21 points. Beverly also shot 50% from the field, grabbed eight rebounds, and hit all five of her free throws.

Freshman Ellie Mouyal not only recorded the first points of her collegiate career, but she was the third leading scorer for the Falcons, scoring 11 in 26 minutes.

With the win, Montevallo (3-3) is back to .500 on the young season.

The Falcons have one more non-conference matchup before they begin Peach Belt play. On December 7th, they will travel Tuscaloosa for a game with the Stillman Tigers.
