SAVANNAH, Ga. – Saturday's women's basketball game between the Armstrong Pirates and the University of Montevallo Falcons was tightly contested throughout, but a big run by Armstrong to start the second half proved too much for Montevallo to overcome. The Pirates defeated the Falcons by the final score of 72-67.

After trailing early on, the Falcons went on a 12-3 run that put them up 18-15 with 9:10 remaining in the first half.

The rest of the half went back and forth, with the Pirates holding onto a slight four point advantage at halftime, 32-28.

The Montevallo attack in the first 20 minutes was led by none other than All-Conference performer Taylor Beverly. She put up ten points, but played only 13 minutes because of foul trouble.

Coming out of the locker rooms, the Pirates went on a 20-2 run. This offensive outburst was led by Bryonna Davis, who had ten points, including two three-pointers.

The Falcons would not go away, though. Trailing by 19 with 8:34 to play, the Falcons came all the way back to within 5 points with 2:07 left. Six players scored during the well-balanced stretch, but Jacquelyn Thompson led the charge, scoring seven.

However, Armstrong would not be caught, making their free throws and winning by the final of 72-67.

Beverly led Montevallo in points for the day, scoring 20 and making all six of her free throws. Thompson was second on the team, scoring 16 and connecting on 4-8 from three. Ellie Mouyal chipped in ten points off the bench.

Katie Colson played all but one minute of the game. She led the team with 13 rebounds.

Montevallo finally returns home to Trustmark Arena this Thursday, Jan. 30. They will be coming off a three game road trip and facing the Mountain Lions of Young Harris.

Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
