MORROW, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team fell to the Clayton State Lakers on Saturday, February 15th, by the final score of 83-66.
Jacquelyn Thompson was dynamic for the Falcons in the first half, scoring 11. The sophomore shot 50% from the field and made three three-pointers.
Despite Thompson's performance, Montevallo trailed at the half, 36-27.
In the second half, the Falcons continued to give the perennial Peach Belt contender problems, but the Lakers pulled away towards the end of the contest.
The final score from Morrow, Georgia was 83-66 in favor of the home team.
Taylor Beverly had another outstanding game for Montevallo. With 16 points and 10 rebounds, the junior from Brandon, Mississippi recorded her 14th double-double of the season.
Jasmine Thomas tied her career high in points, scoring 13. In her last game against Georgia Southwestern, the Birmingham, Alabama native had set her career mark of 13 points.
In all, Thompson scored 14 points.
Katie Colson continued to be constant force for the Falcons. She had 10 points and seven rebounds in 38 minutes of action.
Off the bench, Shay Bonner had nine points. She also added to her conference lead in steals, creating four more turnovers.
Carrington Caise led the team with nine assists.
Andrea Benford had an impressive performance for the Lakers. She had 24 points, while also grabbing nine rebounds.
It was the eighth straight win for Clayton State.
Montevallo returns home this Wednesday, February 19th, to take on the Columbus State Cougars. It'll be the first of three games that the Falcons will host within a five day stretch at Trustmark Arena.
Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
