MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Montevallo junior Taylor Beverly scored 29 points and recorded 16 rebounds in Wednesday night's game against the Columbus State Cougars. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Beverly's outstanding performance was not enough to best the Cougars, as Montevallo fell to Columbus State, 64-56.

The Falcons trailed the Cougars for much of the first half, but it was not due to lack of effort. During a stretch of just 16 seconds, the Falcons recorded two steals that led to two uncontested layups.

After the first 20 minutes, Montevallo trailed Columbus State 23-30. Montevallo was cold from three-point range in the first, missing all seven of their attempts.

The second half, though, saw the Falcons take their game to another level. They were able to even the score with the Cougars just seven minutes into the second frame.

With 11:20 remaining in regulation, Montevallo took the lead over from Columbus State on a Shay Bonner layup.

The Falcons would hold onto the lead for over six minutes, at one point leading by seven, but relinquished control of the game in the final five minutes.

When the final horn sounded, Montevallo had suffered a heart wrenching 64-56 loss.

Beverly was dominant for the Falcons in defeat. She posted 29 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for her conference leading 15th double-double of the year. She also shot 59% from the field and had five blocks and four assists.

Bonner was the second leading scorer for Montevallo on the night. She had 15 points and added to her conference lead in steals, adding three takeaways to her tally.

Columbus State was paced by an impressive performance from Tae Smith. Smith shot a remarkable 77% from the field, including 80% from three-point territory. Overall, Smith had 24 points.

This weekend, the Falcons will stay at home, taking on Georgia College this Saturday, February 22nd.
