MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – University of Montevallo junior Katherine Goldsby posted the second double-double of her career with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the Falcons' 70-57 setback on the road at Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference contest Jan. 24.
Goldsby, who notched her first double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds against UNC Pembroke two weeks ago, finished 6-of-13 from the floor and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc against the Bobcats.
Junior Jacquelyn Thompson finished with a team-high 18 points on 6-of- 12 shooting from beyond the arc for the Falcons, who dropped to 1-16 overall and 0-10 in conference play. Thompson also grabbed four rebounds.
Junior Katie Colson, who grabbed seven rebounds, and freshman Katija Tarailo contributed five points each. Senior Carrington Caise finished with a team-best four assists.
Shanteona Keys led Georgia College (8-9 overall, 4-6 in Peach Belt Conference) with a game-high 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the floor, including a 7-of-8 performance from beyond the arc.
The Bobcats jumped out to a double-digit lead early in the first half following a 3-pointer by Shanteona Keys with 12:39 remaining in the half. Goldsby trimmed the deficit to 30-23 with a 3-pointer with just more than 12 minutes left in the half, but the Bobcats extended their lead down the stretch in the opening half before taking a 40-27 lead into the locker room at the break.
Goldsby led the Falcons with 10 points in the opening half.
The Falcons were able to trim the deficit to single digits midway through the second half when Thompson drained a 3-pointer with 13:59 remaining in the game, cutting the Bobcats' lead to 49-40.
However, the Bobcats managed to push their lead back to double digits and hold off the Falcons down the stretch.
Montevallo will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 28 with a Peach Belt Conference game against the University of North Georgia on its home court at Trustmark Arena.
Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
