MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo senior Carrington Caise led the Falcons with 15 points in a 77-51 loss to visiting University of North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference contest Jan. 28 at Trustmark Arena.
Caise finished 7-of-13 from the floor for the Falcons, who fell to 1-17 overall and 0-11 in conference play. Caise also dished out a team-best four assists and registered a team-high four steals.
Juniors Katherine Goldsby, who grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and Jacquelyn Thompson chipped in nine points each. Freshman Katija Tarailo added six points and junior Katie Colson contributed five points.
Cierra Jackson led North Georgia with a game-high 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
The Falcons got off to a fast start, with a jumper and a free throw by Caise giving Montevallo a 12-9 lead with 12:07 remaining in the opening half.
The Falcons led by as many as six points in the first half following a 3-pointer by Thompson with 5:27 remaining in the half. However, North Georgia closed the half with a 13-0 run and carried a 33-26 lead into the break at halftime.
The Nighthawks extended their lead to double digits on a pair of free throws by Stephanie Huffman with 13:30 left in the game and held off the Falcons down the stretch.
Montevallo returns to action Saturday, Jan. 31 with a Peach Belt Conference contest against Armstrong State University.
Tip-off at Trustmark Arena is set for 1:30 p.m.
