AMERICUS, Ga. – University of Montevallo junior Jacquelyn Thompson scored a career-high 28 points in the Falcons' 76-58 loss on the road at Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference contest Jan. 3.

Thompson knocked down 7-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc, tying her career high for most 3-pointers made in a single game. Thompson finished 8-of-16 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe while also grabbing five rebounds.

The Falcons (1-9 overall, 0-3 in Peach Belt Conference) shot 34.5 percent from the floor and 8-of-15 from 3-point range with Thompson's help, but 23 turnovers allowed the Hurricanes to score 31 points off turnovers in the conference matchup.

Junior Katie Colson added seven points and sophomore Ellie Mouyal contributed five points. Senior Carrington Caise, junior Jasmine Thomas and freshman Katija Tarailo scored four points each. Tarailo grabbed a team-best seven rebounds, while Caise dished out a team-high five assists.

The Falcons opened the game 5-of-5 from beyond the arc and led by as many as eight points in the opening half following a 3-pointer by Thompson with 6:37 left in the first half, which gave Montevallo a 25-17 advantage.

Georgia Southwestern closed the half with a 18-8 run and a pair of free throws by Emili Russ gave the host Hurricanes a 35-33 advantage at the break.

A pair of free throws by Thompson gave the Falcons a 44-41 lead with 14:43 remaining in the game. Shatoria Hudson knocked down a free throw with 9:19 left in the second half to give Georgia Southwestern the lead for good before a 13-0 run by the Hurricanes gave the home team provided enough cushion down the stretch to hold off the Falcons.

The Falcons will return to action Monday, Jan. 5 with a Peach Belt Conference contest at home against Clayton State University.
