HOW IT HAPPENED
A penalty kick in overtime lifted the Falcons to a 2-1 win over visiting West Alabama in their final home match of the season at Varsity Field.
Sebastian Kraus scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute on a penalty kick after the Tigers were whistled for a foul just inside the box. Kraus planted the kick past West Alabama goalkeeper Brad Louis to secure the win for the Falcons.
Kevin Francis scored the first goal of the match in the 66th minute off a feed from Kade Kling to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage.
West Alabama tied the match at 1-1 when Keegan McQueen finished off a free kick from approximately 25 yards by Ashley Phillips in the 79th minute of the contest.
STAT OF THE MATCH
The Falcons' defenders registered two saves on a pair of shots on goal by West Alabama, including a timely deflection by junior Nikola Klacar in the opening half to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS
The Falcons' 2-1 overtime win over West Alabama marked the first victory over the Tigers for coach Bruce Dietterle.
The second-half goal scored by Francis marked the third goal of the season for the Chicago, Illinois native. Francis is tied for third on the team with six points this season.
The penalty kick scored by Kraus marked the second goal of the season for the Woerthsee, Germany native. Kraus is currently second on the team with seven points this year.
