Montevallo women's basketball falls to No. 7 Columbus State, 68-37

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team fell to nationally-ranked Columbus State University 68-37 in a Peach Belt Conference contest Feb. 11.

The Cougars, who are ranked No. 7 nationally in the latest USA Today NCAA Division II poll, outrebounded the Falcons 61-41 and finished with 31 offensive rebounds in the game.

Junior Katherine Goldsby led the Falcons (1-21 overall, 0-15 in Peach Belt Conference) with eight points on 3-of-12 shooting from the floor while also grabbing a team-best eight rebounds.

Senior Carrington Caise recorded all five of the Falcons' assists in the game.

The Falcons went on a 10-0 run midway through the opening half and took their first lead in the game following a 3-pointer by Goldsby and a jumper by Jasmine Thomas, which gave Montevallo a 14-9 advantage with 10:58 remaining in the half.

A layup by Goldsby with 7:59 left in the half gave the Falcons a 18-15 lead before the Cougars ended the half with a 21-5 run, carrying a 36-23 lead into the break following a 3-pointer by Dee Dee Deshazer with two seconds remaining in the opening half.

Columbus State kept the margin in double digits throughout the entirety of the second half on its way to the 68-37 victory.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Feb. 14 with a trip to Morrow, Georgia to take on Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference contest.

Tip-off is set for 12:30 p.m.
