MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo junior Aron McRee entered the game with the potential game-tying run stepping in the batter's box and made quick work of the three Georgia Southwestern batters he faced while picking up his second save of the weekend in the Falcons' 7-4 win over the Hurricanes, clinching the team's fourth consecutive Peach Belt Conference series this season.
McRee, who has registered five saves this season, got out of the jam with a groundout and two strikeouts in the top of the ninth inning.
Senior Matthew Haskins led Montevallo (12-8 overall, 8-4 in Peach Belt Conference) offensively as he finished 3-for-5 at the plate and scored one run.
Sophomore Alex Jones, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 2-for-3 at the dish. Senior Cody White finished 1-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs.
Junior Steven Knudson went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double and drove in one run. Junior Harrison Foster finished 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs.
Senior Vinny Rodriguez went 1-for-4 at the plate, while fellow senior Alec Stiver finished 1-for-3 at the dish. Sophomore Dane Hutcheon, along with freshman Collin Dupree and Kale Latorre, scored one run each.
Sophomore Alex Pondick (3-1) picked up the win after giving up four runs, including three earned runs, on six hits with one strikeout and two walks in five innings.
Junior Taylor Burr gave up just one hit and struck out five batters in three innings in relief.
The Falcons overcame an early 2-0 deficit, doing most of their damage with four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Knudson's RBI double down the left-field line capped the inning.
Montevallo will return to action Wednesday, March 18 with a trip to Florence, Alabama to take on the University of North Alabama.
First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
